Over the past year, Minnesota Recovery Connection (MRC) proudly launched the Latine Community Recovery Advisory Council (LRAC)—a vibrant group of seven individuals bringing together lived experience, leadership, and cultural heart from across the Latine recovery community in Minnesota.

Over the past year, Minnesota Recovery Connection (MRC) proudly launched the Latine Community Recovery Advisory Council (LRAC)—a vibrant group of seven individuals bringing together lived experience, leadership, and cultural heart from across the Latine recovery community in Minnesota.

What started as informal listening sessions and community conversations has grown into a formally convened council. LRAC meets quarterly to co-create and guide culturally responsive recovery supports at MRC, ensuring that the experiences, wisdom, and needs of Latine individuals are seen, understood, and centered in everything we do.

LRAC’s Purpose & Impact

LRAC’s Purpose & Impact

The LRAC exists to:

  • Identify systemic barriers affecting Latine people in recovery or seeking recovery
  • Provide direct guidance to MRC leadership so that programs feel culturally relevant, respectful, and accessible
  • Strengthen and co-design recovery programs and services rooted in Latine culture and experience

Key Highlights from LRAC’s First Year

  • Culturally Responsive Learning: All core training materials and curriculums have been translated into Spanish, with input from LRAC members to go beyond literal translation—ensuring cultural meaning, resonance, and accessibility.
  • Peer-Aligned Support: MRC onboarded Spanish-speaking Peer Recovery Specialists (PRSs) to expand recovery supports that feel culturally anchored for Latine community members.
  • Collaborative Leadership: In partnership with CLUES, we co-facilitated training sessions grounded in lived experience—21 participants fully completed the program so far.
  • Growing Together: New training modules—such as Harm Reduction and Forensic Recovery Support—are in development, set to launch in the next six months.

This first year is just the beginning. With continued partnership, co-leadership, and relational connection, LRAC is building sustainable pathways so that Latine individuals and families across Minnesota have recovery supports that match their culture, their language, and their strength.
